1 qt. pickling vinegar
1½ c. pickling salt
½ tsp. alum

Directions:
Soak cukes in ice cold water overnight. A cooler works great, add ice.
Sterilize the jars. Scrub cukes and cut off a bit of each end and stab with a fork a couple of times. Put dill and 2-3 garlic cloves in bottom of each jar, pack in the cukes and add a bit of dill on the top.
Boil the brine for 5 minutes. Pour over cukes and seal jars. Put jars in 350º oven for 20 minutes to make sure they seal.
One recipe does 12 qt. jars.
If the cukes are ice cold you may have to leave them in the oven 25 minutes.
