3 cups sifted flour
2 cups sugar
1 tsp. salt
6 Tbls. cocoa
2 tsp. baking soda
1 stick butter
2 Tbls. vanilla

Frosting:

1 stick butter - softened
1/4 tsp. salt
1 lb. confectioners sugar
5 Tbls. cocoa
2 tsp. vanilla
6 Tbls. milk

Directions:

Sift above ingredients into an ungreased 9X13" pan. Smooth and and make two small wells and one large one. In large well, add 2 cups water and 2 tsp. vanilla.

In small well, add one stick melted butter, in other small well 2 Tbls. vinegar.

Mix well and bake @ 350 35-40 minutes

Frosting:

Cream butter well and add salt, cocoa & vanilla. Mix well and add sugar & milk alternately beating after each addition

My Mother made this first on birthdays until she turned over the pleasure to me and it quickly became a favorite of my sons and was requested on birthdays and special occasions. When my sons married, it became a favorite of my daughter-in-law and my step daughter and is now requested by their children.
