2 1/2 cups flour
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 cup shortening
2 tsp baking powder (heaping)
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 cup sour milk (or add 1 Tbl vinegar to one cup milk)
2 well beaten eggs

Directions:

Mix flour, brown sugar, salt, and shortening together and reserve 1 cup. Add remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. Pour into 2 cake pans (pans should be greased and floured). Top with the reserved crumb mixture. Bake at 350ºF for 25 minutes.

Can be made into cupcakes. Only fill cupcake holders halfway. Bake for around 19 minutes. Should yield around 18 cupcakes.
