Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2¼ cups all purpose flour
⅓ cup sugar
1 Tbsp baking powder
1 tsp cream of tartar
½ tsp salt
8 Tbsp (½ cup) butter, cold and cut into 12 pieces
1 large egg
½ cup milk

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 450º. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar and salt in the bowl of a food processor fitted with a metal blade. Add the butter and pulse until the mixture is mealy but dry and powdery.

Invert the bowl of the food processor over a mixing bowl and carefully remove the blade.

Quickly whisk the egg and milk together and use a fork to toss the egg mixture into the flour mixture, continuing to toss until all the flour mixture is evenly moistened.

On a floured work surface, gently knead the dough 3 to 4 times, until it is smooth. Pat the dough out to about ¾" thick. Use a 2½" diameter plain round cutter to form the scones.

Press the scrapes of dough together and cut more scones; continue until you have used all the dough.

Place the scones 1" apart on the baking sheet. Bake for 8 - 10 minutes. Cool on a wire rack for several minutes before serving.
