1 1/4 c milk
1/4 c shortening
1/2 c sugar
1/2 t salt
1 cake yeast
Zest of 1 lemon
4 egg yolks
4 1/2 c flour
3/4 c chopped raisins
2 egg whites, stiff peaks
1/3 c blanched almond slivers

Directions:
Directions:
Scald the milk, and add the shortening, sugar, and salt. Cool.

Add the yeast and the rest of the ingredients in order except the almonds. Mix well.

Put in a greased tube pan with the almonds in the bottom. Let rise until doubled.

Bake in a hot oven for 10 minutes and then in a moderate oven for 50-60. Remove from pan and sprinkle with C. sugar.
