"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Directions:
Spread butter in a 9 X 13 dish (I use my fingers) Place bread on bottom of dish. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over bread. Cover with saran wrap and refrigerate overnight.

*Bake at 350º for 35 min from time the oven beeps or a total of about 45 min.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Always a favorite on Christmas morning. I would prepare the night before and put in refrigerator. Dad or I would get up and put casserole in the oven so it was ready for Christmas breakfast.

*Since you're putting the cold casserole dish in the oven, make sure you put the dish in a cold oven and then turn it on so the dish warms up slowly along with the oven. Otherwise, the dish may crack or break

**Could use bacon

Would serve with donuts or cinnamon rolls and grapefruit, juice and coffee/hot cocoa
