5-6 c flour
4 c sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 c butter
1 tsp almond extract
2 tsp bitter almond extract (or 2 tsp more regular almond extract)
4 large eggs
8-16 oz almond paste or marzipan
2+ c sliced or slivered almonds

Blend flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and butter. Mix in the extracts, eggs, almond paste, and sliced almonds until it all forms a paste.

Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Shape log strips 3"wide by 1" high and approx 12" long. Wet tops of logs with water and sprinkle sugar on top until it absorbs the water. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 325º for 25 min. Cool, but while still warm cut into strips 3/4" wide with a serrated knife. Rebake at 200º until hard (~1 hr). Dip in melted chocolate if desired.
