1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 egg (beaten)
1 cup molasses
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1 cup hot water
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream butter and sugar together. Add beaten egg, and molasses. Sift together all dry ingredients; then add to batter. Add hot water last and beat until smooth. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until done.
