2 c. unsifted flour
2 c. sugar
1 c. margarine or butter
¼ c. cocoa
1 c. water
¼ tsp. salt
½ c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Frosting
1 c. butter
¼ c. cocoa
6 T. canned (evaporated) milk
1 tsp. vanilla
16 oz. (1 box) powdered sugar

Directions:

1. Mix flour and sugar in a large bowl.

2. Bring to a boil the butter, cocoa, and water.

3. Pour the hot mixture over the flour and sugar and mix well.

4. Add buttermilk mixed with baking soda, and then add the eggs, salt, and vanilla.

5. Pour into 2 dripper cake pans or 1 large greased cookie sheet with sides and bake at 400º F for 15 to 20 minutes. While it is cooking, make the frosting.

7. Prepare frosting by combining butter, cocoa, and canned milk in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Take off the heat and cool slightly. Add vanilla, powdered sugar, and chopped nuts (if desired).

8. Pour the warn icing over the warm cake. Serve when cooled.
