½ lb dates, cut fine
1 tsp soda
1 C. Hot water
½ C. Salad oil or melted butter
1 C. Sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
½ tsp salt
1½ C. Flour
½ C. Chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Place cut dates in a bowl. Mix soda with hot water and pour over dates. Let cool. Blend oil and sugar and beat in egg. Add vanilla, salt, and date mix. Sift flour and stir into date mix. Add nuts. Bake in shallow 9x13 pan. Bake at 350º for 25-30 minutes. Cut when cool & sprinkle with powdered sugar.
