Ingredients:
Ingredients:
½ cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 cup raisins (GeeGee always used dark raisings, I think I'd subsitute golden)
1 cup applesauce
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp ground cloves
½ tsp nutmeg
½ cup chopped nuts, optional

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, add sugar and mix well. Add well beaten egg.

Add raisins, applesauce and nuts. Mix well.

Sift dry ingredients. Add to cream mixture.

Pour into sheet pan and Bake in 350º oven. The directions say 10-15 minutes, for drop cookies, so it will take a bit longer for the bars.

Frost with your favorite frosting.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
GeeGee (Grandma Brown) always--and I don't know why--frosted half of them with pink frosting and half of them with green--just a simple frosting with powdered sugar, a little milk and maybe a dab of butter or margarine. Bet they'd taste great with cream cheese frosting!
