2 sticks butter
½ cup Crisco (vegetable shortening)
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
3 cups plain flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup chocolate
2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup milk

Directions:
Directions:
Cream Crisco and butter; add sugar; add eggs one at a time. Sift dry ingredients 3 times. Add to other mixture alternating with milk. Add vanilla.

Bake at 325° for 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Nan Moses was John Wienges' great aunt. As kids, we would go to her house on Dantzler Street. I remember this chocolate pound cake as being the most wonderful cake in the world. She also had a dalmatian dog.....no one in St. Matthews had dalmatians! Weird what you remember as a child from a small town!
