2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
2 c. water
2 c. rainsins
¼ tsp. ground cloves
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
3 c. flour
1 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Combine first 4 ingredients in a sauce pan and bring almost to a boil. Simmer 15 to 20 minutes until raisins are soft. Put aside until cool.

Mix flour, soda, salt and spices. Add to thoroughly cooled raisin mixture. Pour into greased coffee can or several small ones. Bake at 350º until cake springs back at touch, about 30 to 35 minutes.

Carmel Frosting

5 tbsp. butter
¼ c. milk
1 c. brown sugar

Cook 3 minutes, let cook, add 1 tsp. vanilla. Stir in 1 c. powdered sugar. (Enough for 9x13 cake pan).
