1 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups half and half
1 cup milk
6 large eggs
2 large egg yolks
hot water
fresh sliced strawberries

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 325ºF
Heat ring molds until hot
Place ½ cup sugar in a medium heavy skillet, cook on medium, stirring until melted and dark amber (5-8 minutes)
Immediately pour into the ring mold, coating bottom and sides, place on a rack to dry
Combine vanilla with half and half and milk
Heat in a heavy 2 quart saucepan until almost simmering
Remove from heat
Stir in ½ cup sugar until dissolved
Lightly beat the eggs and yolks until blended, not foamy
Gradually add to the milk mixture
Pour into ring mold
Place ring mold into a baking pan with ½ inch water on the bottom
Bake until a knife inserted comes out clean, about 30-40 minutes
Remove mold from baking pan and oven, and place on a wire rack to cool for about 30 minutes
Slide knife around flan and invert onto a serving platter

We do not know where Dad go this recipe from. We think that he maybe got it from his work. We do not remember him making this, so it must have been an old recipe. He took a lot of detailed notes, so it must be something he was passionate about!
