Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 cups flour
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup milk
4 tsp yeast mixed with 1/4 cup of warm water & 2 tablespoons sugar
1 tsp salt
1 egg

Date Filling:
4 tablespoon butter
300 mg dates without seed
2 tsp cardamon

Directions:
Directions:
Prepare the dough by mixing the flour, salt & yeast mixture together. Gently rub in butter; add milk gradually until it starts to form a dough. Cover the dough in a bowl with foil/ plastic wrap and a warm cloth. Set aside 30 minutes

Start preparing the date mixture.

Place a pan on the stove, add butter; once melted add the dates & cardamon. Squash using a wooden spoon. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 10 minutes

In a separate bowl, mix in walnuts, sugar and cardamon.

Now start with the dough. Cut the dough in half. Start with rolling half on a floured surface. Roll into a rectangular shape until it becomes thin (less than 1/2 cm). Spread date mixture gently using a spoon then with fingers. Cover the dough completely leaving only 1/2 cm along the edges. Fold it like a swiss roll and gently press on it using the rolling pin to give it more rectangular shape. Using a knife, cut pieces; placing then on a greased tray.

Roll out the 2nd half of the dough to the same thickness; using a round pastry cutter with 2.5 cm diameter, make cutouts. Fill with 1 tablespoon of the walnut mixture; twisting the edges little by little until completely sealed. Whisk one egg and brush the pieces. Place on tray and bake for 20 minutes.

Kleicha is basically a dough with dates inside of it with sesame seeds on top, and it tastes DELICIOUS!!! We eat it on Eid maybe even some other times too. It’s basically a tradition, not the food just Eid. I haven’t ate it in months maybe even a year, but it’s highly recommended to try. The tradition of Eid is the adults sometimes give gift cards or presents for the kids, we have a big dinner with the family. We haven’t done it this year. We do it around 5:00 to 7:00 basically around night. Kleicha takes a few hours to make because you have to bake them, shape the dough, add the dates inside of it, and add sesame seeds on top but it’s not as easy to do. It’s recommended to make. Kleicha tastes really good and DELICIOUS! It takes a long time like a few hours but it’s worth it. We celebrate Eid two times, it’s celebrated on Wednesday, May 12 and Thursday, May 13. Eid Al-Fitr means “Festival of breaking the fast” and marks the end of Ramadan. Traditionally, Eid is celebrated for 3 days in all Muslim-majority countries. As the fasting month Ramadan comes to an end, Muslims are preparing for the festival of Eid Al-Fitr. Kleicha is pretty worth it to make/eat as I said before. I love it you may too!!
