1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1½ cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
3 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:

Bake at 350º

Throughly cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Sift together flour, salt and soda; add to creamed mixture. Stir in rolled oats and nuts. Mix.

Form dough in rolls, 1 to 1½ inches in diameter Wrap in waxed paper or clear plastic. Chill thoroughly.

With sharp knife, slice cookies about 14 inch thick. Bake on ungreased cooky sheet 10 minutes or till lightly browned.
