1 can (12 oz) crushed pineapple
1 can (1lb, 5 oz) cherry pie filling
1 box (1lb, 2 oz) white cake ix
2 sticks (1 c) butter
½ c chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Spoon pineapple and its liquid as evenly as possible over bottom of greased, shallow baking dish, 11 x 7 inches. Spoon pie filling as evenly as possible on top of pineapple. Sprinkle dry cake mix, straight from the package on pineapple. Lightly spread cake mix evenly over pineapple with a spatula. Cut butter in thin squares and place on top of cake mix. Sprinkle nuts evenly over top. Bake in oven preheated to 350º for one hour. Reduce heat to 325º Continue to bake 20 minutes or longer or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cake will have a thick, pudding-like texture.
