DOUGH
1 cup Shortening
2 cups Brown Sugar
2 Eggs
1 tsp. Vanilla
½ cup Water
3 ½ cups Flour
½ tsp Salt
1 tsp Baking Soda
¼ tsp. Cinnamon

FILLING
2 cups Dates, chopped
¾ cup Sugar
¾ cup Water
½ cup Nuts, chopped
Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugars together until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla. Add dry ingredients alternately with water.

In separate bowl, combine dates, nuts, sugar and water. Cook slowly, stirring constantly until thick. Cool slightly.

Drop dough by teaspoonful onto ungreased cookie sheet. Then drop ½ teaspoon of filling on top of each cookie. Cover with another teaspoon of dough.

Bake at 375º 10-20 minutes.
