1½ cups flour
½ tsp salt
½ cup shortening
1 egg
2 T. milk
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
½ cup walnuts
½ tsp baking soda
⅔ cups firmly packed brown sugar
¼ cup maraschino cherry juice
¼ cup maraschino cherries
Directions:
Directions:
1. Cream shortening and sugar, blend in egg and beat well. Stir in half the dry ingredients, add cherry juice and milk, then stir in remaining dry ingredients and mix well.
2. Blend in melted chocolate, chopped walnuts, and cherries.
3. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto greased baking sheets. Bake 12-15 minutes in 350ºF oven.
4. Cut 18 marshmallows in half, place cut side down on hot cookies and cool on rack. Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting and top each with a nut half.
