1 qt okra, cleaned and sliced
1 med onion, chopped
1 sm bell pepper, chopped
3 ripe tomatoes, peeled and chopped
1 T oil
1 t salt
˝ t black pepper
1 c shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 qt water

Directions:
Directions:
Smother okra with onion, bell pepper and tomatoes in cooking oil. Add salt, pepper, shrimp and water. Cook on low heat for 45 minutes. Serve over rice.

NOTE: Use a heavy pot, but do NOT use an iron pot as it will cause okra to turn black.

Momma contributed this recipe to her State Farm cookbook where she worked for her entire career. Definitely one of Momma and Daddy’s favorite dishes. Momma grew up growing and picking okra – she was always terrified of the okra worms! Daddy also grows okra currently which is such a treat.
