1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 c. butter (or margarine, or butter-flavored Crisco)
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour, sifted
1 c. chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together brown sugar, butter, and vanilla. Stir in flour and chocolate chips. Spread in greased and floured 8x8 inch pan and bake at 350º for 25 minutes. Cut and remove from pan immediately.

Variations: For more tender Toffee Squares, add an additional 1 c. flour. Mix to make crumbs. Firmly press crumbs into baking dish. After baking, cut immediately, but don't removed until cooled.

Add or substitute ½ to 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans.
