German Chocolate Cake

2 c sugar

1 c shortening

1 c butter milk

2 1/2 c flour

1/2 c boiling water

1 tsp salt

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp vanilla

1 package German Sweet Chocolate

4 eggs

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve chocolate in boiling water. Let cool Cream sugar and shortening. Add 4 beaten egg yolks. Add 3/4 cup buttermilk. Alternate with flour and salt. Dissolve soda in remaining 1/4 cup buttermilk and add to four mixture. Mix in chocolate and vanilla. Fold in beaten egg whites.

Bake at 375ºF for 30 minutes.
 

Icing for German Chocolate Cake


Ingredients:

1/2 c whipping cream

1 c sugar

3 egg yolks

1 egg white

1/4 c butter

dash salt

tsp vanilla

1 c shredded coconut

1 c chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cook in double boiler until right consistency. Add vanilla, coconut and nuts.
