1 1/2 c sifted powdered sugar
1 c butter or margarine
1 egg
1/2 t almond extract
1 t vanilla
2 1/2 c sifted flour
1 t cream of tarter
1 t baking soda

Cream sugar and butter. Add egg and flavorings. Mix thoroughly. Sift dry ingredients and stir in. Refrigerate 2-3 hours. Bake at 375º

You can roll this out and use cookie cutters. Or if in a hurry, roll into logs and refrigerate. Then cut slices off the roll and bake. Can decorate with colored sprinkles before baking or with frosting after baking.
My great grandmother made these, my mother remembers the cookies.
After all the years of making these, I realized that Betty Crocker has the same exact recipe for sugar cookies. My great grandmother was born quite a while before Betty Crocker came on the scene, so I am thinking that old Betty claimed Grandma's recipe as her own!
