1 pound paper-thin slices of country ham, cut in small pieces
½ cup hot water or strong coffee
Black pepper

Directions:

Fry ham until browned in a skillet, adding a bit of oil or bacon drippings if ham is quite
lean. When ham is fried, add the liquid and bring to a boil, stirring and scraping the bottom of the pan. Cook for a minute or two, then divide the ham over grits or hot biscuits and top with gravy.
Add black pepper to season.
