1 1/2 cups shortening
2 lb. powdered sugar
1 t. Complement flavoring
1 t. clear butter flavoring
1/2 water

Directions:
Using electric mixer, cream shortening until very soft. Add a little powdered sugar and flavorings. Alternately add water and powdered sugar, beating on medium speed until frosting is smooth after each addition.

Years ago my mom, dad and I took a class on how to decorate cakes it was a lot of fun and if nothing else we got to spend time together and came away with this icing recipe. Mom has been famous for her decorated cakes whether it was for a wedding or birthday everybody looked forward to them. My uncle Bob would call this "lard" icing, but he loved it. Mom and I get our Complement flavoring frim Ms. B's sweet supplies on the west side of Indianapolis. If you happen to have any icing left use it to make graham cracker sandwiches. I used to make them a lot for the kids as an after school snack. Bo still asks for them.
