1 lb lard
3 eggs, beaten slightly
1 tbsp baker’s ammonia (ammonium carbonate)
1 cup milk with ½ tsp salt in milk
1 tsp anise oil
8 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream lard and sugar. Add eggs. Pour hot milk over baker’s ammonia. Let stand till cool. Put anise oil in milk. Add to creamed lard and sugar. Add flour and mix thoroughly.

Refrigerate for at least 3 hours.

Roll thin; cut out and bake in moderate oven about 10 minutes. Do not brown. Cool and frost if desired.

(Baking ammonia and anise oil can be purchased at the prescription counter at the drugstore)
