2 lbs round steak, cut in ½" cubes
3 tbsp fat (I use bacon drippings)
1½ c chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tbsp enriched flour
½ c chopped celery
8 oz can seasoned tomato sauce
3 oz can sliced broiled mushrooms and broth
1 c sour cream
1 tsp salt
dash pepper
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Directions:
Directions:
Brown meat in hot fat; steam for 15 minutes. Add onion and garlic, cook until tender but not brown.Stir in flour. Add remaining ingredients; mix thoroughly. Turn into greased 2 qt casserole . Bake uncovered in slow oven (325º) until meat is tender(recipe says 1½ hrs; I think at a least 2 hrs) Serve over rice.

From Better Homes & Gardens 2/55, via my mother, who wrote "I like this very much, but expensive." I agree, but nevertheless it's 1 of my 3 favorite recipes to serve if I have guests for dinner.
My Jamaican friend Jennifer calls this "stew." When I think of stew I think of a dish that also contains carrots and potatoes, and doesn't contain tomato sauce or sour cream; but whatever "floats your boat!"
