Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 cups of orange juice (original recipe called for grapefruit juice)
1 1/2 cups of unsalted butter, room temperature
1 1/2 pounds of powdered sugar
4 tablespoons of heavy cream
Red gel food coloring

Directions:
Directions:
Simmer the juice for almost an hour. You want to thicken and get syrupy.
Set aside to cool completely.
Mix together the butter, heavy cream and sugar with a paddle attachment until fully incorporated.
Slowly add the syrup. After adding about half of the syrup, try it to see if it’s the desired taste. If the buttercream begins to separate, add more room temperature butter.
Once fully mixed, dye the buttercream ruby red.
Bake whatever white cake you choose (the original recipe used a lemon poppy seed cake and created a stacked white/light blue/dark blue cake to reveal, when cut, Dorothy’s iconic plaid dress design).
Frost generously with the bright red buttercream and cover the whole damn thing in Wilton Red Sparkles!
