1- 1 ½ lbs of stew meat cut up
2 T. cooking oil
½ c. flour
6 medium potatoes, peeled and cut up
4 medium carrots sliced
2 stalks celery, sliced
½ pkg frozen green beans (optional)
1 c. onion soup
1 t. salt
¼ t. pepper
½ t. oregano
½ t. basil
1 t. Worcestershire sauce

Directions:

Shake beef cubes in flour; brown in hot oil. Stir in onion soup and seasonings. Add carrots first, then potatoes, celery and beans. Cook on low 1 to 1¼ hours on stove or in crock pot after the meat is browned. On stove top stir occasionally to keep from sticking. If it is too thick add some water.

For French Stew: add ½ t. thyme and 1 c. red wine. Add 1 c. sliced and sautéed mushrooms just before serving. Sprinkle each bowl with crumbled bacon.
