1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
2 T butter
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
5 medium granny smith apples peeled cored sliced (approx. 2 cups)
1 unbaked pie crust
1 egg, beaten
1 T flour
2/3 cup whipping cream

Directions:
Directions:
Combine sugar, water, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg in a medium dutch oven. Stir well. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until butter melts. Add apples. Cover and cook 10 minutes or until apples are tender. Drain apples. Reserve 1/2 cup syrup. Arrange apple slices in pastry shell. Pour syrup over apple slices. Bake at 450 for 5 minutes. Reduce heat to 375 and bake an additional 15 minutes. Remove pie from oven. Combine egg and flour in a small mixing bowl until well blended. Gradually add whipping cream, stirring until smooth. Pour over apple slices. Return pie to oven and bake at 375 an additional 10 minutes. Cool before slicing.
