2 -1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1/3 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
3 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
5 Tbsp. milk

Directions:
Directions:
Sift dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Cream shortening, butter, sugar, and vanilla until fluffy, add eggs one at a time and milk slowly while continuing to beat. Add dry ingredients and mix. Drop by teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten with bottom of a glass which has been dipped in sugar. Bake about 8-10 minutes at 400º Alternatively- chill dough and cut out your favorite holiday shape. About 36 cookies.

Grandma Jean McCray tried this recipe off the side of the baking soda box. We loved it and have been making it for 60 years. It is a soft dough but you can chill it and roll out for shaped cookies. When we were young we would color canned milk and paint designs on the cookies, then sprinkle with sugar especially at Easter. This cookie is great frosted.. We love sugar cookies and strawberries and cream.
