1 lb. spicy Italian sausage, crumbled
1/2 lb. smoked bacon, chopped
1 quart water
2 (14.5 oz.) cans of chicken broth
2 large russet potatoes, cubed
2 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
i medium onion, peeled and chopped
2 cups kale or Swiss chard, chopped
1 cup heavy whipping cream
salt and pepper to taste

In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown sausage, breaking into small pieces as you cook. Rinse and set aside. (If you don't rinse, the soup will have a red tint to it). In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown bacon. Drain and set aside. Place water, broth, potatoes, garlic, and onion in a soup pot. Simmer over medium heat until potatoes are tender. Add sausage and bacon. Simmer for 10 minutes. Add kale or Swiss chard and cream. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Heat through.
