1 cup milk
1 egg, beaten
7 pieces of white bread, toasted, torn into crouton size pieces
1/2 stick butter, melted
small yellow onion, diced, to taste*
salt
pepper

We have always taken this recipe times 10, which makes two 9x13" pans. I use 1 large onion for the entire 10x recipe.*

Mix all ingredients in large bowl.
Bake at 350 for one hour, or until center is firm.

Mom made this for Dad every Thanksgiving because Dad refused to eat any "fancy" dressings. He loved this for its simplicity and its lack of vegetables. I've always adored this recipe, probably because it makes me think of Dad, but I skipped it at one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations that I had with my family in lieu of a fancier dressing. The kids wanted to know where Papa Ben's dressing was, and I've been sure to include it in every family Thanksgiving meal ever since!
