Ingredients:
4 ounces or 1/4 pound package German’s sweet chocolate (You can get this at most groceries in the baking section. It is a 4 ounce bar like a candy bar).
1/2 cup water
1 3/4 cups sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
4 eggs
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Coconut Pecan Frosting
1½ cups sugar
1 12 ounce evaporated milk
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups coconut
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:
Directions:
Melt chocolate and water on top of the stove in a pot and cool. Cream butter, sugar and eggs; beat well. Add cooled chocolate and water, flour, salt, soda, buttermilk and vanilla extract mixing well with mixer. Pour into a 9x13 baking pan sprayed with pam.
Bake in preheated 350 degree oven 35 minutes or until knife comes out clean. Cool about 10 minutes.
To make the icing, heat evaporated milk, butter, sugar and salt in a medium saucepan over medium heat until boiling; stirring frequently. Reduce heat to medium-low then boil mixture for 15-20 minutes or until a light caramel color and thickened. Remove from heat then stir in vanilla, coconut and pecans. Let cool 5 minutes then spread over cake.

Personal Notes:
Tammy and I made this cake for dads birthday and everyone went crazy over it. I never told anyone that we cheated a little bit that year and used a german chocolate store bought cake mix and put the homemade icing on top.
