Cabbage Rolls Recipe

1 lb ground beef
2 1/2 cps cooked rice (can use Minute Rice or long cook)
1 small onion, diced
2 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 Tbsp chili powder
1 large head of green cabbage
2 cans diced tomatoes
1 cans water

Broth
1 Tbsp (heaping) cornstarch
1/4 cp water

Directions:
Directions:
Place head of cabbage in large pan of very hot salted water to soften so leaves can be removed easily.

Mix ground beef, 1 1/2 cups rice, onion, salt, pepper, and chili powder together in large bowl.

Peel off cabbage leaf to use as a wrap.

Scoop approximately 1/2 cup of hamburger mixture in your hand and create kind of a ball shape. Place on cabbage leaf and wrap. Close cabbage leaf with toothpicks.

Place cabbage rolls in the bottom of a 4 - 6 quart pan. Pour in tomatoes, water, and remaining rice.

Cook on medium heat for 30 minutes after it comes to a boil. Do not let liquid cook dry.

Remove cabbage rolls from pan. Mix cornstarch and 1/4 cup water. Bring remaining broth to a boil. Add cornstarch mixture to boiling broth and cook until thickened.

This recipe was handed down from Mom and was a favorite of ours. This is what I always asked Mom to fix on my birthday.
