3 cups whipping cream
1 large clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoons softened butter
4 pounds red potatoes, thinly sliced
4 ounces grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons fresh thyme
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
shaved Parmesan and Italian parley for top.

Heat oven to 350°

In medium pan combine cream and garlic; bring to a simmer over medium heat. Simmer uncovered for 5 minutes, do not boil. Remove from heat.

Butter 3-3 1/2 quart baking dish. Layer 1/3 potatoes. Combine grated cheese, thyme, 1 teaspoon salt, nutmeg and pepper. Sprinkle 1/3 cheese mixture on potatoes and then pour 1/3 hot cream. Repeat layers twice, cover with foil.

Bake 1 1/4-1 1/2 hours until potatoes are almost tender and liquid mostly absorbed. Uncover, bake 20-30 minutes until liquid is absorbed and potatoes are browned. Let stand 10 minutes. Sprinkle top with shaved Parmesan and Parsley.
