2 c. Sugar
2 c. Sour Cream
4 Eggs
3 c. Flour Sifted
1 t. Baking powder
1 t. Soda
1 t. Spices
1 t. Salt
1 c. Raisins
1 c. Nutmeats (optional)

Brown Sugar Frosting
2 c. Brown Sugar firmly packed
1 c. Cream
2 T. White Syrup
1 t. Butter (keeps mixture from boiling up so much)

Grandma's words: Mix sugar with cream, add egg yolks, then flour mixed with baking powder, soda, salt and spices and last the egg whites beaten. I remodeled this to your dad’s taste. I used 2 beaten eggs, and added 1 cup diced apples. The spices I used were ½ scant tsp. cinnamon, ½ scant tsp. cloves, allspice and nutmeg. I covered the raisins with warm water to soften them, then drained them before I added them to the mixture. Bake at 350º until tester comes out clean.

For the Brown Sugar Frosting boil to soft ball stage. Let cool for awhile, then beat to spreading consistency. If the cream is real thin, only use ¾ cup but test quicker for soft ball stage.
