1 cup chopped dates
1 tsp baking soda
1¼ cups hot water
¾ cup butter
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder

Topping:
½ cup brown sugar
⅔ package chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)

Directions:
Directions:
Put dates in bowl with hot water and baking soda. Set aside. Mix butter, sugar, salt, together. Add eggs and mix. Sift baking powder and flour together. Add and mix flour mixture and date mixture alternately to batter. Spread in 13x9 greased pan. Sprinkle toppings on top starting with brown sugar. Bake 350º for 35-40 minutes
