1 cup (2 sticks) butter at room temperature
2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon milk
3 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt


Confectioners' sugar for rolling out the cookies

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl with an electric mixer until light. Add the eggs and vanilla. Beat until fluffy and add the milk.

In a separate bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Beat the flour mixture into the butter mixture until well mixed. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease two cookies sheets or line them with parchment paper.

Break off a hunk of dough. Dust rolling surface, rolling pin, and all sides of the dough with confectioners' sugar. Roll the dough out 1/8 inch thin and cut into shapes with cookie cutters.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Cool cookies on racks.

Before this recipe, I was always rolling my sugar cookies in flour and could not figure out how bakers got the cookies so sugary tasting. Once I found this recipe it made perfect sense.
