1/2 C whole almonds
1/3 C butter
3/4 C sugar
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
1/4 t. almond extrace
2 t. grated orange zest
2 1/4 C flour
1 1/2 t. baking powder
1/8 t. nutmeg
1/4 t. salt

Bake nuts at 325 for 8-10 min. until golden brown. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, vanilla, almond extract and orange zest. In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, nutmeg and salt. Add to creamed mix and mix until blended. Cut almonds in half or thirds and add in. Divide dough in half. Place on greased and floured sheet and form into 2 logs about 1/2" thick, 1 1/2" wide and 12" long, at least 2" apart on sheet. Bake at 325 for 25 min. or until light golden brown. Cool on rack for 5 min. Slice diagonally at 45 degree angle, about 1/2" thick. Lay slices flat on baking sheet and bake 10 min. turning once after 5 min. Let cool. Store covered or freeze.
