Ingredients: 3 cups flour 2 t. Baking powder 1 t. Salt ¾ cup margarine or shortening 2 cups brown sugar 2 eggs 1 t. Vanilla 1 cup chopped nuts

Directions: Mix dry ingredients and set aside. Cream together shortening and sugar, Add eggs one at a time and beat after each addition. Add vanilla and beat again. Add dry ingredients gradually, mixing until smooth. Mix in nuts. Set out 3 large sheets of waxed paper and divide dough into three on the waxed paper. Mould the dough into logs about 1½ or 2" in diameter. Chill well ( at least 1 hour). Preheat oven to 375º. Cut into sliced about ¼" thick. Place on ungraded baking sheet and bake for about 12 min. Or until done. Makes about 6 dozen cookies. |

Notes: When the children were young, we had a cottage. Many evenings they would go fishing with their Father. I would keep a log of these cookies in the fridge and take them out and bake one log (about 2 dozen cookies) so they would be ready to eat when they came in from fishing. Hence the name Fishing Cookies. It seems like a lot of sugar but it does make 6 dozen cookies.
