Personal Notes:
Gladys Stark was Hilda's best friend. They knew each other from high school and later, both worked at Block and Kuhl's department store. Gladys was in the hosiery department. Hilda sold fur coats!

When I was growing up, we spent every holiday with Gladys, Jess, and their son, Pat. Sometimes we were at their house for the holiday, sometimes we were at our house. One memorable Fourth of July, Gladys brought the dessert. It was a cake in a sheet pan and on top of the cake, Gladys wrote "Bang!" That was Gladys all over, simple and direct!
