For the cake:

1 cup melted butter
1/2 cup baking cocoa
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cup flour
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

For the "mud":

1 10 oz package miniature marshmallows
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup baking cocoa
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup milk

Heat oven to 300º

Blend 1 cup melted butter with 1/2 cup baking cocoa in mixing bowl. Add 2 cups sugar, flour, eggs, vanilla and pecans if you are including nuts. Mix well.

Spoon mixture into a greased, rectangular baking pan and bake for 35 minutes.

While cake is baking, assemble all remaining ingredients.

Combine 2 cups sugar, 1/4 cup baking cocoa, 1/2 cup butter and milk in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil for 1 minute then turn off.

Pull hot cake from oven. Sprinkle with marshmallows. Pour mud sauce on top of cake and marshmallows.

Serve hot!
