Directions:
ºCream shortening, sugars, and vanilla. Beat in eggs. Combine flour, soda, and salt and add to creamed mixture. Finally add oats.

This was originally a refrigerator cookie recipe in which the dough was shaped into
rolls 1½ inch in diameter, wrapped in wax paper,, chilled for several hours or overnight, and cut into slices, I usually just use a cookie scoop and then lightly flatten the scooped dough on the cookie sheet as soon as I have mixed the dough. Use an ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 400º for 8 to 10 minutes.

Personal Notes:
My dad loved these cookies, and his granddaughters baked them for him for birthday
gifts. The recipe came from a circa 1940s Gold Medal Flour cookbook, which I still
have.
