4 oz unsweetened chocolate, chopped
1/2 C shortening
1/4 C butter
3 eggs, lightly beaten
1 3/4 C sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1.4 tsp salt
2 tsp expresso powder
2 tsp vanilla
1 1/3 C flour
1/3 C unsweetened cocoa pwd
1/3 C sugar
2/3 C powdered sugar

In a small saucepan, melt together chocolate shortening and butter over low heat. Cool.

Preheat oven to 350`. Grease or parchment cookie sheets. In a large bowl combine next 5 ingredients, through salt. Stir in melted chocolate mixture, expresso powder, and vanilla. Stir in flour and cocoa pwdr.

Shape dough into 1 1/2 inch balls. Roll balls in 1/3 C sugar and then is powdered sugar; place 2 inches apart on cookie sheets.

Bake 8 to 10 min. or just until the edges are firm and cracks appear slightly moist. Remove from oven, let cool on sheets 2 minutes. Remove and cool completely on wire racks. /stire between sheets of waxed paper, airtight,
