Nana's Nut Roll Recipe

2 sticks melted butter
1 yeast cake
¼ c warm water
4 heaping T sugar
1 c canned milk
4 egg yolks, beaten
4 c flour
¾ t salt

FILLING:
2 lb. finely ground walnuts
4 egg whites
1½ c sugar
1 t vanilla
1 c honey

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve the yeast in warm water, add the butter,milk and egg yolk. Stir rapidly. Add flour and salt in gradually, knead dough lightly till comes together. Divide dough into 6 parts, wrap and place in refrigerator overnight.

To Make Filling: Beat egg whites until stiff and add sugar gradually. Add in the rest of ingredients, if it's too stiff, add a little bit of milk.

When ready to bake, roll out dough on floured surface and brush with melted butter. Fill with the nut filling and roll up. Let set for 2 hours before baking. Brush with egg wash and bake at 350º for 20-30 min, till nicely browned on top.
Cool completely before cutting.

I think this recipe was originally from Grandma Mary Eanniello, but mom/nana has made this nut roll every Christmas. It's everyone's favorite!
