2 cp sugar
3/4 cp milk
1 Tbsp butter
1 Tbsp vanilla
1 lb dates (pitted and chopped)
2 cp pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Boil sugar and milk to soft boil stage (use candy thermometer). Remove from heat.

Add dates and stir until smooth

Add butter, nuts, and vanilla.

Beat mixture until stiff. Using a damp cloth (such as a dish towel), shape into a loaf about 3 inches in diameter. Store cloth wrapped loaf in refrigerator.

This recipe has been passed down from my maternal grandmother (Maudie) Standfield, to Dorothy Whitehead, to Barbara Parker and Karen Jones. Grandma always made this treat at Christmas time.
