¾ c. chopped walnuts
1 c. cut up pitted dates
1½ tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
3 tbsp. shortening
1 c. hot applesauce
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 c. granulated sugar
1½ c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
With fork mix walnuts, dates, baking soda and salt. Add shortening and applesauce.
Let stand for 20 min. Start heating oven to 350 º . Grease 9 x 5 loaf pan. With a fork, beat the eggs. Beat in vanilla, sugar and flour. Mix in date mixture until just
blended. Turn into pan and bake about l hour 10 minutes. Test to see if done before
removing. Cool in pan.
