1 cup brown sugar
1 cup water
1 cup raisins
⅓ cup lard
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Boil all ingredients together 5 minutes & cool. Then sift 2 cups flour and 1 tsp. baking powder. Dissolve 1 tsp. baking soda in 1 T. water. Add flour & baking powder to first mixture and lastly add the baking soda in water. Mix well.

Bake in moderate oven 40 minutes.
