⅔ c. shortening
⅔ c. butter or margarine, softened
1 c. granulated sugar
1 c. brown sugar (packed)
2 tsp. vanilla
3 c. all-purpose flour*
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts
2 packages (6 ounces each) semisweet chocolate pieces
*If using self-rising flour, then omit baking soda and salt
Heat oven to 375º
1. Mix thoroughly shortening, butter, sugars, eggs and vanilla.
2.Stir in remaining ingredients. (For a softer, rounder cookie, add ½ c. of flour).
3. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet.
4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until light brown.
5. Cool slightly before removing from baking sheet.
